The first step to kickstart your journey as a tank truck driver at Northwest is to let us know you’re interested in joining the team. You have the option to apply on our website or via Indeed (job board), and you’re welcome to connect with us directly through a phone call. To move forward with the interview process, make sure to include your resume and 5 year commercial driver abstract. Northwest relies on a large team of experienced, highly trained professional drivers. We’re looking for drivers with:
- 5 years of experience as a Class 1 Driver
- 3 years of Bulk Fluid Hauling experience, or equivalent
- 1 year of experience with Super B Trailers
Step 2: Interview & Employment Checks
The interview is the next step and provides an opportunity for Northwest to assess your suitability for the position and gauge your compatibility with our company culture. Be prepared to discuss your past experiences, skills, and your commitment to safety. We’ll conduct employment and background checks, and review your abstract.
Step 3: Pre-Employment Testing
As a tank truck driver, you’ll be responsible for transporting hazardous materials safely. At Northwest, the safety of our employees and the general public is our top priority. Therefore, expect to undergo pre-employment testing to ensure that you meet the necessary health and safety standards required for the job. You’ll be guided through a D&A test, and a road test (pre-trip inspection, coupling and uncoupling procedures, safe operation, overall driving skills and behaviour, etc.) to ensure your skills are adequate.
Step 4: Orientation & Training
Once you’ve successfully completed the interview and pre-employment testing, you’ll enter the orientation and training phase. We value the professional development of our drivers and strive to provide comprehensive training, ensuring you’re well-prepared for the job. Our training program equips you with the knowledge and skills necessary to excel in your role as a tank truck driver. As a part of our two-day in-person orientation, you’ll receive specific instructions on operating tank trucks, handling hazardous materials, emergency response procedures, and company policies. Subsequent training takes place in-field until you’re comfortable to be on the road.
